Title: Opinon on Ideas

Circe. - June 25, 2008 04:09 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure if this goes here, but I'm currently working on a writing forum, and I have a few questions for the general community. It's a bunch of questions, but only answers the ones that you feel like. This is really going to help me out a lot.
  • Would you like to have a forum just for polls?
  • Is it really necessary to have a Clubs/Groups area for members to make their own clubs?
  • How would you like to see a tutorial area to help with your writing?
  • Would you think that many people would like to co-write?
  • Do you think a writing accomplishments/failures forum would be popular?
  • Do you think a researching forum would be popular? (To help members with researching.)

This is the first time I create a writing forum, so I could use some pointers and what not. You help would be great!

I see that writing forums are getting a bit more popular. I've had my idea going on for three years.

# Would you like to have a forum just for polls?

No. You want to limit sections that distract the members from writing. That is what your forum is about.

# Is it really necessary to have a Clubs/Groups area for members to make their own clubs?

Nope. Once again you are a writing forum. Maybe you can have clubs or something if they meet x amount of requirements and limit the club so it has to do with writing or literature.

# How would you like to see a tutorial area to help with your
writing?

I think that would be a challenge to do. You can't just make tutorials to help improve people's writing. It is your own personal thing really.

# Would you think that many people would like to co-write?

Most of my stories are co-written.

# Do you think a writing accomplishments/failures forum would be popular?

Nope. Not in my mind really.

# Do you think a researching forum would be popular? (To help members with researching.

Why? Why would you need a researching forum?

I think you are going the wrong way with your forum. You want to create sections that will encourage the writer to post their work or seek help. The way you make it seem like with the tutorials and the research is that people don't know how to write. I suggest that you make sections that have to do with the writing aspect itself. Like a section for developing characters for instance, and allow them to create a thread and people can judge if they are too god like or whatever. Just a sincere piece of advice is don't give up. It isn't easy advertising a writing site. I honestly think that writing sites are the hardest to maintain.

Before I started creating my forum, I looked at over 20 other writing forums, seeing what was most popular. Those things I listed are things that I found on almost every writing forum, but are not yet included on my own forum. I wanted to see if these things were really necessary or not, and you gave me the answer.

(I really didn't understand how a Researching forum or Tutorial forum would work either... but I jumped on the band wagon... lol)

Thanks for your response!
