Are you allowed to have your mobile telephone switched on in class?

Well you're not supposed to use it at all in school...

^ In our school they won't let you have it, if they see it they take it. Though most people have theirs anyway. When it's near the end of the year I usually carry mine everywhere.

In lessons at college, you arent supposed to have it on. But as long as you aarent sat there using it and its not disturbing anyone, noone says anything.

We are allowed them at school. But we are not allowed to use them during lessons.

Can't have Cell Phones in school period. However, people have them on silent all the time. Me, personally, I do not (not sly enough).

My school has a strict rule with them, we can only get them (If taken up after school) with parent consent and the second offense they get taken for 2 weeks, then it's the year.

Quite frankly, I always have mine out as I've became better and better at hiding it in class. Hell, I can text with my phone still in my pocket :D.

Well, the school I went to had people over 50 years old and the rules were a bit loose. And it annoyed me quite a bit since they were 40 years old and I could go by the rules, but they couldn't. Also, why the **** do you need to have a ring tone on? I mean, it's enough for me to have it on vibrator. Ring tones annoys me.

It just got illegal in elementary schools around here but it used to be legal and accepted if you told the teacher you were expecting an important call that day.

As soon as you turn 18 around here you can do whatever because you're old enough to make decisions. It would be rude to not turn off the ring tone during class. So no one have it on unless it's important.
